Face Hurting?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone else have issues with their face hurting? My face hurts all the time. I have TMJ that flares up at different times and my jaw hurts sometimes and feels all bruised up. I try tk practice face relaxation techniques, massaging, I have a mouthguard... my face just hurts.

I was diagnosed many years ago with trigeminal neuralgia (nerve pain in the face) it was excruciating!

Yes, I have pain radiating up from under my jaw . Was given injection blocks to rule out occipital neuralgia . The pain dr thought it was TN , but my neuro ( mayo grad) disagreed . He was correct . It Sometimes comes during periods of stress . I’ve been getting PT for it by a jaw specialist which I would definitely recommend . They have to have a special license . They work both inside and outside of your mouth and on your neck .

I have facial pain now and then but was diagnosed with Trigeminal neuralgia which is the nerve that starts at your temple and spiders across your face... it's very very painful (apparently one of the most painful feelings one could have next to childbirth)
I take gabapentin for it 300mg 2x a day during a flare-up (when on the meds it last maybe 3 days) ... NOTE: I discovered an awesome side effect so doc said to keep taking it as needed, it also helps with restless leg syndrome :) and nerve stabbings (don't know what it's called but you feel like you are being stabbed in random places and when you put pressure, sometimes, it will go away or move to another random area)

That was the first thing I noticed when symptoms started years ago. My face was so sore and sooo sensitive to touch, my jaw is always sore and tense. My doctor dismissed it saying she's never heard of anything like that and wouldn't even know who to send me to. Absolutely awful feeling!
