Members connected over the question of whether OCD and perfectionism get worse after a fibromyalgia diagnosis, with many agreeing that the combination creates a tough cycle where high standards clash with limited energy. Several members shared how fibromyalgia has forced them to adjust expectations, describing shifts from rigid cleaning schedules to a more gradual, one-step-at-a-time approach, while one member noted that cognitive therapy made a significant difference in managing compulsive counting. A recurring theme was the emotional frustration of not being able to upkeep things the way they once did, balanced with gentle encouragement to practice patience and self-compassion.

Yes, tho mine is a bit of cleanliness, my daughter has a bad case of the bad kind of OCD mixed with Tourettes so she can get really rude when she is scared or nervous. It's a nervous system disorder characterized by the way they feel like doing anything that may be socially unacceptable or morally wrong sometimes. The worst case was Eric Harris who was one of the kids who shot up Columbine high school.
Obsessive thought and compulsive actions make life very hard because they a hard at a job or in social settings. That's why she has to move out of my mom's house. OCD and my mom's dementia are not a good mix. But she doesn't have much to go to so she wants to live in a van, which means I will never sleep.
Sorry for the venting. OCD is more than the media says it is.
God bless you 🙏✝️ having fibro is enough to make life hard but having to do with more than it, like most of us, is miserable.

I was also until I broke my ankle. I was laid up for 3 months unable to walk. That was a learning experience. I don't sweat the small stuff as much, mostly because it is just not worth it!

Sounds exactly like me. I get so frustrated and depressed when things start to pile up. And it’s even worse now with COVID because you can’t even pay someone to help you. Heck! Sometimes I’m too tired to write on this forum. But I force myself to and am always happy that I did😄

@A MyFibroTeam Member, I’m the same way with washing my hands before I eat. I remember when I was in grade school I refused to eat lunch because they wouldn’t let me wash my hands before lunch. I’m also the same way when cooking, I wash my hands several times. Cross contamination is a real thing.

I do and have had it for years. Hubby even told me he noticed it when we were in college. I was like, really? LOLOL

But now I do it in cycles. It took me a while to get to the point where I get so upset that I can't upkeep like I use to be to now I just do a bit at a time. Though I do wonder if I ever was good at it. LOLOL

My OCD is organizational which is cool that is how I like to be. I just can't do it the way I use to.
