Just spoke to my rheumatologist today and mentioned that I was in a flareup and in a lot of pain. I had taken gabapentin before and she told me to go back on it again to help with the nerve pain and continue taking amitriptyline. A little worried about taking gabapentin long-term, any thoughts?
I been on it since 2008 started on a 300 three x day and as of now on 800 three x a day it's okay don't be worried about that.
I use CBD/THC drops under my tongue when needed not to often,, they wanted to give me gabapentin i declined
I was on 3,000 a day after taper up over five years and it helped and then just totally stopped helping. I miss it. Never had any problems with it. 🤗
Terri62 it is a pain killer for nerve pain often given to fibromyalgia patients. Calliegirl 155 thank you for telling me that. I had heard that when you come off of it there can be some terrible withdrawal symptoms and it made me nervous. Right now anything to ease the pain!
I've been taking Gabapentin for years (it doesn't actually help my fibromyalgia much but I need it to sleep due to my restless leg syndrome at night), and besides the side effects of dizziness I haven't had any long term ill effects from it. Just make sure not to stop it suddenly, as I did once (not consciously, I just didn't feel like I needed it much anymore and stopped taking it for a while), and it made me have a lot of suicidal thoughts as part of the withdrawal (I never would have acted on them but it was scary nonetheless). I was taking 3600mg a night at the time, but I'm on a much lower dose now (600mg per night). I didn't realized for a while that it was the withdrawel causing it. I know it can be bad for your liver if you take large amounts of it, but as long as you are healthy I don't think there are any long term issues in taking it.
