The extended release metformin has been recalled since having been found to contain cancer causing ingredients. It is suggested that you contact your doctor immediately. This recall does not include the immediate release variety.

Members shared their appreciation for the alert about the extended-release metformin recall due to cancer-causing contamination, with several noting that they or their spouses had been taking the medication. One member described experiencing a serious IBS reaction the previous week and felt reassured knowing it may have been linked to the recalled drug. The conversation briefly veered into sharing sleep aid alternatives like melatonin and hydroxyzine after an initial autocorrect confusion, but members quickly refocused on thanking the original poster for the important safety information.

@A MyFibroTeam Member ... it was not melatonin, it was metformin. When I went to post, my phone auto corrected to melatonin and I didn't catch that error until another member @A MyFibroTeam Member pointed it out.

Thx! ⚘🧑❀🌝

I use melatonin occasionally.
I like the time released version because it stretches out my sleep to make it longer. I don't usually need help going to sleep, but I wake up and can't get long enough sleep.
Sometimes I use hydroxyzine to help with sleep. Both were suggested by my neurologist and she prescribes the hydroxyzine.
I hope this info helps someone, even though this question is really about the recent metformin recall...

It gave my mum stomach problems. In the end she had to have insulin as the tablets upset her.

hi straw34. Thank you for the information.πŸ’›

The article linked was for Metformin, which is a diabetes type two medicine which is only available through pharmacy with a prescription.

I also found this other article online.

My husband used this medicine, so thank you for alerting me! πŸ˜‡

Melatonin is an over the counter sleep aid. I looked and didn't find any recalls for melatonin. πŸ’› 🌟 πŸ’›
