Thoughts On Soma For A Muscle Relaxer?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I take tizanidine now but it isnt very effective lately amd i take birth control pills that my doc said is dangerous to take them while on this muscle relaxer. I tried flexeril, baclofen and methocabinol with no luck. I think i tried another one but cant remember the name. Soma is considered a controlled medication and I dont know if doctor will prescribe it to me. But i see him wednesday and will discuss it with him then. Have any of you tries soma? If so? What were your side effects?

i also want to add,, if your new to THC(Marijuana) be very cautious,, DO NOT take the highest THC available as this can easily cause panic and anxiety,, High THC puts my son to sleep,, High THC puts me into an instant panic attack ,, heart palpitations, cold sweat and i have even lost conciousness,, so,, that being said ,,for me i have found a tincture 8/1 8mgs CBD to 1 mg thc that works great for restless legs and neuralgia (stabbing pains) even for muscle pain,, just make sure you start very low,, i originally started with an 18/1 ,, everyone is different as stated above .. what one can tolerate another cannot

Laura. Ty for being so honest.

I always read posts w enthusiasm hoping to find something new that may work for me too.

Since fibro has Sooooo many symptoms its tough to find something that addresses all of them.

Stretching, Entenzyme Forte, and my 10s machine which usually do a good job in relaxing tight muscles, but it is a temporary fix. When fibro symptoms are too severe nothing helps. And it’s at these desperate times that I start to reconsider prescription meds.

So your heed of caution is a good reminder to be careful before we start something that we may regret later.

And as many on this site will agree, some things work well for some and not for others.

I’m now trying acupuncture to see if it helps w tight painful muscles.

More on that later :)

Hugs to all my Fibro sisters and brothers. We need to hang in there and keep praying for a cure!

Please, please DO NOT take the Soma. It is soooooo addicting!!!!!!! I took it for 6 yes and became very addicted!!! Yes, it helped me feel better but in the long run hurt me and my family horribly. Its not good! Run!!!!
Any doctor that gives out soma or xanax, in my opinion, is not a good doctor. My pain Dr is great. However, he WILL NOT prescribe Soma to anyone ever! Its a death sentence Stay away! 🙏

Hi, I’m new to this site but not new to FM. Have you considered Magnesium for a muscle relaxant? I’ve been taking it to control my muscle spasms for 20 yrs now. I currently take Nature’s Life Magnesium Malate 1,300mg with Malic Acid (3 morning, 2 afternoon and 2 at night). I can’t take prescription muscles relaxants they make me feel like I have the flu. I was just reading about a more bio available form Magnesium L-threonate which I will be trying as soon as it gets here. Check out www.mercola.com Dr Mercola explains all the different types. Swanson Vitamins has their own brand of the same magnesium for a little less money. Natural solutions to treat our symptoms is always better for our bodies. Pharmaceuticals have such nasty side effects some of which are not reversible. So be very cautious and research anything your doctor wants to prescribe.

What works for one doesn't work for someone else. Soma many years ago made me sick. Tizanidine I was on for a few years always made me feel drowsy all the time. I've tried others. Baclofen works best for me. Doesn't make me drowsy and relaxed my muscles. I take it every nite with 400 mg of gabapentin without them I can't sleep. And when I have a bad day I take them both in the morning as well along with tramadol it helps me a lot and gets me thru those bad days. Hugs and Prayers
