Prozac With Amitriptyline?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am on 40mg of Prozac per day for depression. My doctor prescribed 25 mg tablet of amitriptyline to be taken at bedtime.. I have not taken it every night because I have been worried about serotonin syndrome. I talked to my pharmacist and he said because the dose is so small, I should be fine. Thoughts?

I started on 10mg of amitriptylene then a rheumatologist raised it to 50 and I sleep all night long!! I’m on many other medications but I don’t care, as long as I finally get some sleep, I’m taking it. I really don’t think a doctor would prescribe it if it didn’t go with your other medications!! This drug changed my whole life and I’m so thankful cause even the thoughts of all those years with 1-2 hours sleep at a time, it makes me feel sick! Please anyone, if you’re having trouble sleeping, talk to your doctor about amitriptylene, it is the best thing that ever happened to me!!

Thanks. I was actually started on 10 mg, and then I cut one in half and 1 to 15 mg and now I take two at night at 20 mg. So, if I am getting too tired in the morning I’m sure it I’d be able to cut it back down again. I have a rheumatologist appointment soon anyway. They are so tiny there actually hard to split!

Are you having trouble sleeping as well? My amitriptyline gives me a good nights sleep.Sometimes too good in the early mornings might be difficult!

Helen13... I think pharmacists in general know more about meds than doctors. I guess I do feel reassured.. thank you💕 I hate Fibro so much! It is like walking through a minefield every day!

Hi Donnam21362! Yes I have trouble sleeping. I have taken it and it works very well but not every night. When you mentioned I am supposed to take it every night, you were right about that. My pharmacist confirmed what you said. If the 25 mg is too much every night, the tablets can be split.. I am glad to hear you are sleeping well...
