@A MyFibroTeam Member, a functional Medicine doctor is a MD that thinks outside of the box. They like to look for the root of the problem instead of throwing medication at you. I’ve noticed over the past few years, chiropractors and holistic doctors are saying they are “functional doctors” don’t be fooled by that, they are not functional Medicine doctors.

Yes. I see a Functional Medicine Doctor. They did a full physical and intake of all my symptoms. They did a lot of blood work and took stool samples. They found that I had Vitamin D Deficiency, Magnesium Deficiency and Zinc Deficiency, Candida Overgrowth, Malabsorption problems, Low Protein Levels and Low Albumin Levels, Insulin Resistance, Uncontrolled Diabetes, Hypothyroidism, hormone imbalance, and high inflammation levels. They put me on supplements. Now my blood pressure is normal. They decreased my medication from 2 blood pressure medications to 1 medication and they halfed the dosage. My HgbA1C is normal. They decreased my Metformin diabetic medication from 1000mg twice a day to 500mg twice a day. My Triglycerides and Cholesterol are now normal and they halfed my Cholesterol medication. I have lost 40 pounds following their diet plan. My fatigue and pain were much better controlled. My sleeping was better.

However, over the last couple of months I have been growing tired of taking all these supplements and the cost is a problem. I have tried to stop some of the supplements and I have noticed that the numbness and tingling in my arms, hands, legs and feet are coming back. I have also noticed that my pain is not as controlled. I hate having to pay out so much money for supplements, but it looks like I am going to have to find a way to stay on them or find another solution.

Yes I have done the hormone test I’m perimenopausal, haven’t had a period in almost 6 months. I have never taken any antidepressants. I already have dry mouth don’t want any meds to worsen it. Wondering if some of my symptoms are hormonal?

That’s good advice will go in with an open mind. I also heard it can get expensive. I work at a drs office I already had every lab there is to run and I have a good medical background won’t let her order any unnecessary tests. Hope her knowing that will stop her from thinking I don’t know anything.

Oh, and please don’t get your hopes up too high. It took me a long time to get into see my functional doctor because she is very popular. I really thought this was the answer to all my problems. After a year and a half of doing everything she recommended, I wasn’t feeling any better. I felt defeated, cried, and was depressed. I think if I wouldn’t have put so much hope in believing she was my answer to my health problems, I wouldn’t have taken it so had. I’m not saying don’t see one, I’m just saying don’t get your hopes up too high.
