Lately I have been bothered by feeling useless. I do many things to make life livable like exercise massage and chiropractor but the rest of my life seems to be mostly resting. If I do one or two little things around the house or any kind of errands I get ridiculously happy that I did something productive! Anyone else with this issue??

My psychologist gave me some great advice: don’t try to tackle the whole world in one day, and praise yourself for all your accomplishments. Get done one or two things each day that you know you can do rather than taking on a huge project that will be too tough to take on and end up making you feel defeated if you’re not able to finish it. I too was, and still do, feel the same way at times. I find myself resting more than I’d like and things that I want to get done fall by the wayside. I try to remember her advice and give myself credit for all of the accomplishments I’ve made each day whether big or small.
You are not useless!! You are doing all you can to get through the days
with an awful illness that you have no control over..
The small accomplishes do matter.
I have learned to believe that and not belittle myself,
or compare to who I was and what I did.... (does no good)
Remember how important you are, and I hope this feeling lessens for you.
hugs and love to you, Nancy
My income is disability my monthly check doesn’t even begin to cover paying my Dr and Hospital bills.
After getting the cancer and getting sick with chemo and radiation I realize I should have been satisfied with my life and having that good job and what days I had energy to go to work and should have been satisfied when I had energy for doing laundry, store some cleaning and going to visit family and friends.
And because I got so sick with that chemo and radiation and now I am in remission doing Immunotherapy Imfinzi and now I am back to having days of only getting two things done.
If I am cooking I make enough for a couple more meals, I have meals in the freezer and microwave meals in the cupboard.
If I can only get two loads of laundry washed and dried but then run out of energy to fold it I just throw it over the back of the chair.
I need to be satisfied with that and I know all about not being able to get tons of stuff done and feeling like a failure.
But now after being diagnosed with cancer and never knowing if and when it will come back I count the little things.
Example yesterday I worked on putting my plastic storage containers and lids back in order. I know that is a not such a big deal and shouldn’t count for anything. But I say too bad. I did it and I am counting it. If I get the sheets changed on the bed today you can bet I am counting that.
We are not useless we are here for a reason.
Any day could be my last. Cancer, Heart attack, Car accident, slip and fall and hit my head.
Anything can happen on any day.
@A MyFibroTeam Member Honey , ask the massasge person if the do massage for Fibro. If not or they hesitate .... run the other way. There are massages just for those with Fibro and some even do a can't think of the word tissue relese .
Regular massage can hurt the first few times , especially the very first time.
A good masseur should be trained in all types of massage.
I volunteer 2x week @ a church based thrift store dealing with low income and homeless people. Even if I am in pain, my life isn't as bad as those we serve. The little things that I accomplish each day make me feel useful to my family 😊😊
