I was sitting at my kitchen table working a puzzle, when I got this severe pain that felt like it was my muscle right across the bottom of my ribcage. The pain radiated into my chest and back. It was hard to move and laying down was impossible. My mother in law suggested Tums, a hot beverage, and a heating pad. Did all that. After a little over an hour the pain went away in my stomach except for if I coughed or breathed too deep. It stayed severe in the back and sides. I do have small gallstonesโ€ฆ read more

Members shared their experiences with sudden severe pain across the ribcage that could be fibromyalgia-related or something more serious, with several suggesting possible causes including costochondritis, gallstones lodging in the bile duct, or muscle spasms triggered by strain. Many community members described similar episodes of intense pain that radiated to the chest and back, with practical advice including using lidocaine patches, wearing loose clothing, applying heat, and tracking whether the pain returns or worsens. A recurring theme was the strong encouragement to follow up with a doctor for an ultrasound to rule out gallbladder or kidney issues, even if symptoms improved, since small gallstones can cause serious problems and it's better to be safe than sorry.

Could be gallstones??...One may have lodged into the bile duct. Maybe it passed through and/or dislodged itself? You dont need to have large gallstones to have issues, small ones can be just as troublesome. If your pain continues, even if it is intermittent, I would suggest u go back to your doctor and ask for an ultra sound to check it out..it could be something else. Just sharing out of my own experience.

Definitely go and see your Doctor and ask for a ultrasound scan of your gallstones and check for kidney stones as well, just to be on the safe side.

When I have had a gallstone attack the pain is horrendous but I had to lay down as well, and throwing up as well.

I'd definitely get it checked out but I have had the same thing. When I had my gallbladder and it flared on one occasion, iI truly thought I was having a heart attack. You should get it checked. God bless. Hope you feel better. ๐Ÿ™โค
