I use all different kinds of things. I have compression braces for almost all of my joints. I have several ( 8 ) types of pillows. I use Tiger Balm a lot along with several different rubs. And if nothing works all I can do is pace and cry! I have noticed that drinking caffeine helps me some when my pain is high. I hope you find your thing soon.
I know all to well about excruciating pain!! I have muscular dystrophy and fibromyalgia and arthritis. And the pain is horrendous!! It gets so bad that I begged God to save my life and provide some relief and I turned to a therapist and psych.and found antidepressants along with Tylenol 3 and backlofen muscle relaxers and fiorinal for my migraines. The combination makes the pain tolerable.

Don't feel bad about getting drunk I also drink alcohol as well because nothing really helps to ease the pain.
Also no Doctors understand or really want to help just bearing the pain isn't good enough, that's why I will be honest enough to admit that I drink alcohol to help ease the pain π

I take pain medication which dulls the pain a little, but it is always there (even with regular tramadol) I meant if it's screaming with pain time, I screamed solid for 10 minutes last weekend, the thought of going and waiting in A&E just seemed more if a nightmare as I couldn't even get comfortable at home, I ended up getting very drunk instead ! π
I just endure it I take cocodamol only if I have to and sleep if I can .
I use ibuleve gel and a hot water bottle and stay in bed
