I was told two years ago My doctor ordered a ANA test which came back a low positive. Was referred to a rheumatologist and he told me that I have fibromyalgia. I have days where I push myself even when I have zero energy. I am so stiff with joint pain. Would take the medication as prescribed by my rheumatologist and they didn't really work. I would go back and he give me different medicine. He wouldn’t do any other tests to check my inflammation levels. So I stopping going to his office. It was… read more
Hello, hope this can help you out. Ana test is to search destroyed cells by marking the nuclear particles that are basically telling you that something is going on, fibromyalgia from what I've read in text books NEVER is + for that (hence why there is no "biological" clue of where the pain is coming from since the body itself it's fine), that test shows usually that there is an autoimmune disease (or could be a + w.o a disease, a medication you took can make it + too). You should check the most accurate autoimmune diseases with your type of pain and symptoms, because your first doctor is crazy as hell if it diagnosed fibro with a test (that should have been - in the first place), he should have done further testing, discard EVERY autoimmune disease with lab test and exploration, and probably an Interconsultation with an endocrinologist, neurologist, and such to discard every other possibility (fibro is a "last resource" for doctors, when there is nothing "wrong" that can be proven) and as the person that answered you before there is an autoimmune disease that is called "Mixed connective tissue disease/disorder") that could fit in what you feel and would be ANA+ but I wouldn't take the diagnosis you had (hyper mobility syndrome) as a 100% accurate diagnosis either, since I have hyper mobility myself and fibro w.o ANA, usually it doesn't show in a lab.
Seek a good rheumatologist and ask to be tested for all of the autoimmune diseases, get image testing to see the joints and seek damage.
Sorry for my bad English, wish I could help you even with that barrier, I'm a med student and that's what I would do in your case, always seek for a second opinion.

Hyper mobility of the joints is a condition where the connective issue around the joints are slack so that there is a wider range of mobility in the joint. My thumbs are double jointed. Over stretching of the connective tissue around the joints can cause severe pain.
I think ANA testing is looking for lupus, an autoimmune disease.
Hope this answers your questions.
I too have HMJ syndrome. I was diagnosed back in 2001. I had other issues, especially painful feet, and was finally diagnosed with Fibro in 2003. Unfortunately, as there a are so many symptoms of Fibro, they overlap with other conditions so I don't think anyone can be wholly certain it is Fibro. I have sarcoidosis, an auto-immune disease, and have been tested for Lupus and RA. Both results cam back clear. I think diagnosing Fibro is a case of elimination other than a certainty.
Hope you get some answers soon.
I am in the circle of not knowing myself. some days it feels like they are playing games with me. I know that is not true-just how I feel. Hoping there is a specialist to help you out with hypermobility joint syndrome . annie
AS I have pulmonary sarcoidosis all my blood test rates are high for inflammation; such as, ACE and CRP. I also have CKD so have abnormally high levels of Creatinine.
I have been tested for Lupus and RA - they came back clear.
