Members rallied around someone whose pain clinic doctor dismissed fibromyalgia as not being a real illness, offering fierce validation that fibromyalgia is absolutely a legitimate chronic pain condition recognized as a disability in many places, despite some doctors still refusing to acknowledge it. Several members shared their own frustrating experiences of being dismissed, misdiagnosed, or even called hypochondriacs, with one member waiting ten years for a proper diagnosis, while others emphasized that current medications often only ease symptoms rather than treat the root condition. A recurring theme was the critical importance of self-advocacy, finding a new doctor who truly listens and understands fibromyalgia, and leaning on the community for validation when the medical system fails to provide it.

Sounds like the pain clinic doctor needs to do some research. Fibromyalgia is a real illness. As of right now there are no drugs to properly treat fibromyalgia. There are only drugs to help ease the symptoms, and for a lot of patients that doesn't even work. I can no longer take any medications, so I can't really advise you on what are the best drugs for fibro. Please whatever you do don't believe the pain clinic doc.

See someone else. You are your own best advocate. It can be isolating, but you know you best.

Lots of doctors think it's in your head! It is a condition & here in the UK it is classed as a disability. Persist with your doctor & see a different pain doctor. Take care. X
