Isolation
Fibromyalgia gradually took over my life by being ever present and erratic in its attacks
Little by little I started drawing inward trying to learn about and cope with this invasive incurable malady.
I started making excuses why I couldn’t attend social engagements. Even coffee with a friend can be challenging and to painful.
My world starts to shrink. Friends and family stop calling as often. I ponder whether it is because I have refused so many invitations in the past or… read more

Members deeply resonated with the original post about isolation caused by fibromyalgia, with many sharing that they too have lost years to the condition and watched friendships fade as chronic pain took over their lives. Several members offered gentle encouragement to reconnect without guilt, suggesting practical approaches like inviting friends over for coffee at home, educating loved ones about fibromyalgia through shared resources, and focusing energy on relationships with people who truly understand invisible illness. A recurring theme was the importance of self-compassion, accepting that fibromyalgia has changed life in profound ways, and recognizing that the community itself serves as a lifeline of understanding when the outside world feels unreachable.

So sorry to hear that you have been having a hard time.
Unfortunately Fibromyalgia is unforgiving with its symptoms and constant Pain.

Many people are the same I am very much a recluse and don't have any friends outside my husband and myself.

The only friends that I have are only on this Website.

Most people including our Spouses have little understanding of Fibromyalgia, they think that it is all in your head.

Because you don't look sick on the outside.

You might consider emailing your friends and sending them information regarding Fibromyalgia.

Maybe they will get back to you hopefully, you can always invite friends around to your place for a cuppa Coffee and Cake. For a Catch up!

I know how difficult it can be I have learnt to live with this fact.

Being accepting of yourself and Fibromyalgia has changed your life.

Blessings Gentle Hugs

I’m so sorry for what you’re going threw. I must say you are right. What you said was perfect our world shrinks . I finally realized I cannot talk to him about my pain to anyone. People don’t understand until they go through pain

I have had fibro for over 30 years so I know what you are talking about. I've had years go by and realized too that I had lost contact with too many people. I have a couple close friend's that are like sisters that I met a few years before my fibro hell started. They live 600 miles away but I see them every few months when they come down. It is so sad what happens to us and our lives when chronic pain takes over our lives. I just take one day at a time and try to get thru it the best that I can. Try to reconnect with the one's that are more understanding to what you live with daily. It's not worth the effort or strength to be around people that just dont get it. I hope you get back to being able to at least visit with your friends even if it's at your house for coffee. The friends that will come see you at home are probably the ones who will try to understand what you live with and what is your new normal. Hang in there and you always have us when you need us. Hugs
