Real is when they apply needles to certain meridian points and sham is where they just apply anywhere there was a randomized control trial done years ago and found both groups had benefit regardless of where the needles were placed

I used acupuncture 30 years ago and got some relief. Then that particular person left the area. I tried again two years ago and the needles in the right jaw area caused a lot of pain. I have a TMJ issue and when I have the feedback on my pain.. didn’t get a answer and he kept putting the needles in same area. Finally, I told him not to touch that area anymore. It’s possible I have Atypical Facials Pain , which I conveyed. I felt he should know more than me what may be going on. Finally, I felt I wasn’t getting any help from this particular guy. I don’t know if it’s me or him that’s not understanding. I have a little advantage as my BFF husband is a retired acupuncturist.... unfortunately living on the opposite coast from me.. he told me I should never feel pain afterwards from a treatment. I want to find another, but have become distrustful now. I just started using CBD oil, but not getting any good results yet.

Thanks for sharing about Shan acupuncture.... didn’t realize it existed .
