Members shared mixed experiences with Ambien for insomnia, with some finding it effective when taken right before bed while others reported troubling side effects like chest pain, migraines, hangover feelings, and even sleepwalking or performing activities with no memory of them. Several members recommended alternatives including Lunesta (especially for women), melatonin combined with magnesium powder and 5-HTP, Klonopin, or alprazolam, though many acknowledged that severe insomnia can be difficult to manage with any single solution. A recurring theme was the importance of taking sleep medications immediately before bed, maintaining a strict sleep schedule, and being aware that some medications work differently for different people, with careful monitoring for unexpected reactions or behaviors.

Be careful because you could possibly do things in your sleep that you are not aware of. My husband said I got up and walked around, bugging him about stuff while he was studying. Luckily I never tried to go outside like a friend's husband did!

Ambien never agreed with me. Yes it will help you sleep but it gave me a terrible hangover. I have been taking Klonopin for several years. It works well for me...

I have been using for awhile. Best to take and go right to bed. I haven't done anything crazy. I taken 10mg. I do get my best sleep with it.
