I was diagnosed for fibro and MS at the same time. You're correct that there are quite a few similar symptoms in both, howIever MS has some additional symptoms that fibro does not. For instance MS causes me to have a lot of respiratory problems including shallow breathing which limits the pain meds I can tolerate because I have stopped breathing before. Also I have a lot of UTIs because the MS causes my bladder not to empty completely and this is common with MS. Also I have attacks where parts of my body go completely numb for a period of time. For me, it is most common on my face, throat, and mouth. I will start to feel my lips tingling and know it is starting and within a short time my throat is completely numb as are my lips, my tongue and the left side of my face. These attacks can last anywhere from 45 minutes to 8 hours. During that time I cannot eat or drink because of the numbness which could cause me to aspirate. I'm unable to speak because of my tongue and lips being numb. I'm not aware of any of these things happening to people with fibro. I don't know if the shots that I give myself for MS would help fibro patients or not but I can tell you that they are very painful. The needles are very small but the medicine inside the syringe burns and the injection point feels like a bee sting and swells up into whelks which last for 20 or 30 minutes. Also I had to have steroid IV treatments monthly for several years in order to have the energy to even get out of bed. The side affects of the steroids are terrible which include weight gain and anger problems. In addition, they cause many people to have cancer. Fibro is bad but I certainly wouldn't want to take any of these treatments if I only had fibromyalgia.

@ TexasBaba - it very well could be! There are lots of connections and overlaps between fibro and other autoimmune conditions so it is very possible that MS is another one, especially since MS is linked to issues with one's central nervous system and has a lot of the same symptoms like the tingling/numbness, brain fog etc.

When I went to my GP about the chills I get, the first question she asked me was if I had MS or RA so some GPS may already be wondering about a connection between Fibromyalgia and MS. Possibly.

TexasBaba, I just looked up and read that article. Very interesting indeed! The medical field advances slowly. I remember a type of eye cancer that my cousin has been stricken with in her late teens. She lost one eye. Her doctors told her that it wasn't a hereditary disease. 5 years later. Her 2 year old daughter lost one of her eyes to the exact same cancer. MS was in no way, hereditary. Now they claim it can be. That was the main reason I had the MRI to check for lesions. My 13 year old grandson is now afflicted with excess spinal fluid on his brain. He will require a shunt implant into his spinal cord and a catheter run into his stomach to drain the excess fluid and save his sight. Guess what, his mother had undergone this exact same scenario 4 months after his birth. His doctors are astounded! This doesn't run in families, they said.
I do believe that there is a reason that it is called "practicing medicine" . lol I just hope and pray that research finds and connects the dots and that it results in help for all of us!
Sorry for the rant. I've had a lot to deal with for sometime now and we just found out about my grandson on Saturday with his regular Optometrist appointment. I am taking him to the first specialist in a few hours.

Two separate diseases. There’s similar symptoms of many diseases like MS, Lyme disease, lupus,, etc etc. There are some people here on our site that have combination diseases. Most can be diagnosed by blood test.. Fibro is diagnosed mostly by trigger points and by Rheumotologist.
