Do any of you wake in the morning with certain areas of your body stiff, like it takes you a little while to sort of get that area flexible and going again?

Members overwhelmingly identified with waking up stiff in the morning, with many comparing themselves to the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz and describing the need for 30 minutes to several hours to loosen up enough to function. Several members shared practical strategies that help, including doing gentle stretches or physical therapy exercises in bed before standing, walking the dog or taking a morning walk, using heating pads on stiff areas like hips, applying numbing sprays or roll-on topicals like Biofreeze, and giving themselves extra time in the morning to warm up slowly before starting the day. A recurring theme was the importance of gentle movement, patience with one's body, and finding small rituals like coffee or stretching that make the painful transition from sleep to activity more manageable.

Yes. And any time I change positions after being stationary for a while.

As far as the hips go I use a heating pad, and sit on it for 10 min. or so. I also do lots of stretching exercises that help the hips and the whole body.

I love the Wizard of Oz reference! We have hard wood floors that squeak and everything I make one squeak, my husband teases me that I need to oil my joints. We never made the Tinman connection though. Lol.

Yed, warming up slowly is what we must do. When I worked, I got up at 5 am to be at work by 9 am. That's what it took to get me there. Just go slow getting out of chairs. Try extending your leg in front of you a few times before standing. (This is also a good gentle strengthening exercise to do whenever you are seated.) My hips lock up sitting, so if anyone has an idea how to warm up hips in a chair, please share.
