I have found out that if I am the passenger I take my IPad with me and play solitaire or any game that relaxes me. And if it is a long drive I watch movies. I will lay my seat down so I don’t see what is going on.
I also have PTSD. I do not go out much nor drive any more than I absolutely hae to. I feel when driving I am not in control as there are so many distractions. I do better if I do not turn on the radio. I used to be able to drive with it on music but now find it absolutely annoying so stopped using it. There are so many people using cellphones, not obey traffic laws etc. I feel like it is an accident waiting to happen because so many people just speed, pass on the left or right in no passing zones, go through red lights etc. I cannot drive at night as I do not have night vision. I completely understand and I still feel the same way if I am a passenger with someone else driving. I just do not feel safe.
I’ve had this issue for years. I have medication for anxiety but cognitive behavorial therapy is what helps most. It makes me challange the anxiety. Also, using large muscle groups to use up the adrenaline. Squeeze my thighs, glutes and biceps.
After our car was been hit by another car I started having the anxiety of being hit again. Sometimes I was fine then a sudden feeling of fear came in. Our family doctor started me on anxiety pill it helps I do not have to take all the time but to have one when I need to.
Anxiety..I do the same when riding in a car..sometimes other cars scare me and I cry out..so I take something to read ..and don't look up unless were stopped at lights or signs..it helps..
