Members strongly related to the question about severe jaw pain, with the overwhelming consensus pointing to TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder) as a common culprit, especially among those with fibromyalgia, along with related conditions like trigeminal neuralgia and arthritis affecting the jaw. Several members shared practical relief strategies including wearing a night guard or appliance to prevent teeth grinding, performing jaw exercises, alternating ice and heat therapy, taking ibuprofen or prescribed medications like Neurontin, avoiding hard-to-chew foods during flare-ups, and seeing specialists such as dentists, chiropractors, or orthodontists for proper diagnosis and treatment. A recurring theme was the connection between stress and jaw pain, with many members noting they unconsciously clench or grind their teeth during sleep or periods of high stress, and encouraging the original poster to pursue medical evaluation since conditions like blocked salivary glands or infections can also cause similar symptoms.

I'm so sorry Nane.... I have had this and was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia a few years ago.... my right jaw hurt so badly it felt like someone was drilling a hole on my upper right side of my jaw and into my skull ! I went to the dentist and nothing was wrong . I was prescribed neurontin and it helped but made me too tired so I stopped taking it and used ibuprofen instead... I dealt with this for months and it's better now. I also had the dentist make me a mouth guard to sleep with. I will say extra prayers for you Sis. I assume this is fibromyalgia related and it is sometimes unbearable ... feel better soon and keep me posted on how you're doing .... 😘

I get this. Sometimes I can't chew at all for about a day because one side of my jaw is in so much pain. I believe it's called TMJ pain?

I was diagnosed with TMJ (before being diagnosed with fibromyalgia), I was told after the fact that it is common for fibro patients to have TMJ. I had surgery to correct it. Perhaps you can talk to your dentist and have him/her refer you to a specialist for it if needed?
