Advice For New Symptom
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have started having severe itching/stinging/burning in my inner groin area where the leg of my underwear touches me. It goes unrelieved if I take my underwear off and scratching makes it worse. Its driving me crazy. There is absolutely no visible skin irritation or injury. Is this a symptom of fibro? Is it possibly something else? Any advice?

Yes i get uncontrollably itching, but i take prition alleregy tablet 1 a day, if i stop taking this itching is a night mare and it can be any where on my body, from itching in my ear which sends me bonkers to under my nose , to my back any where, but I was told it was one of symptoms of fibro.

I get itching there and other places. I learned early this year that I have sensitivity to processed foods. The itching can start in the groin area, arm pit area, and depending what I eat, my head and legs and arms can itch. I get no rash either. I try to stick to anything natural and lots of water to help filter out the irritants, but then I'm in the bathroom all the time too. I have a spastic bladder to make things even better. HA! I've seen articles about itching being a fibro symptom. I have a feeling that all the meds I used to be on was too hard on my liver which is causing the itching because the liver can't detox properly. When the Gabapentin isn't enough, I have to go to ibuprofen and acetaminophen for pain relief. I notice when I do that and eat something processed, that the itching is worse than usual. Some processed foods make me feel like I have bugs crawling on me. Other processed foods make me itch a little, but then there are others that make me itch like crazy everywhere! I had to stop drinking my one cup of coffee a day because even just a tablespoon or two of creamer produces crazy itching. The good side to that is that having to eat natural foods when available and drink lots more water instead of juices, pop, coffee, ect., I've lost about 45 pounds since February which is much needed anyway to take the weight off my joints. My body gains weight easily and is resistant to weight loss. So I guess this annoying thing has also been a blessing...silver lining. :) guess it makes me healthier...or at least trying to be healthier. I live with a friend who buys the groceries so I have to pick and choose and sometimes suffer from the choices I get, but I'm grateful to have someone looking out for me. He bought me some fruit and veggies yesterday, finally. Today I had an apple and a banana and my water. :) NO Itching!

Just start paying attention to what you eat and how your body reacts. Sometimes it takes 4-6 hours before I start itching. Good Luck!

Oh I just thought of something, I am not sure what point of life you are in, but in my pregnancies I was allergic to my own pregnancy hormones it was the worse feeling. I was up day and night itching. I was in the emergency room several times getting benadryl for it. I ended up working at night because I just couldn't sleep. Maybe you are experiencing some kind of hormonal shift or change. Also a high amount of bile salts on the skin can cause intense itching ( something I was repeatedly checked for in pregnancy)

I suffer like this too! I itch all over and continuously scratch myself it drives me nuts! I've changed foods, I've changed detergents, I've tried every sensitive wash on the market but nothing helps it! The GP gave me a body wash which helps a bit but hasn't stopped it!! It gets worse at night once I've taken my clothes off especially my underneath! I only wear cotton underwear now but that hasn't stopped it either!! Talk about itchy and scratchy show lol I have to laugh or else Id be crying with total frustration with all the symptoms of Fibro :( x

If it's not what you're eating, maybe you have an allergy to detergent or need a different kind of material for your undies. Also, at times, I have sensitivity to light, sounds, and odors. Sometimes things aren't loud enough, while other times it's too loud. My best friend can't stand wearing clothes because she is so sensitive. She always has to rip tags off her clothes because they bother her so much. Fibro...grrrr
