I am back in physical therapy because I wasn't able to turn my head from side to side and had terrible neck pain. The therapist said the pain was triggered by knots in the sides of my upper rib cage. She did the release massage and it was very painful. She said the pain had to be endured in order to have less pain later on and warned me that the areas she worked on would be painful afterwards. Yes my neck and shoulder pain does cause jaw pain almost like TMJ. When the neck and shoulders relax more, the jaw pain improves.
I have had myofascial release therapy and it has helped. I feel that it is painful sometimes when the fascia is found to be restricted and then is released but then sometimes I have pain after having plain massage therapy too. On the day I have the therapy done I don’t do anything else , just relax. You can always tell your therapist if it is too painful during the treatment they can be much more gentle. Or find someone else that does myofascial release therapy it should be a gentle person. My therapist uses the John F Barnes approach. This doctor is from the USA. And it is a very gentle therapy with excellent results in my opinion
Just wanted to be sure you know that dry needling and acupuncture are 2 different things. Better look into both before committing to either.
I see a massage therapist once a week and it has helped tremendously. I occasionally get trigger point Injections when I need them. If you have access to it then it is a wonderful tool to include in your toolbox.
I've tried multiple therapy options but I prefer and get more relief from deep tissue massage.
Make sure it done by a Registered Massage Therapist. There are lots out there that are not registered. Try to get someone who has experience with Fibro.
Use heat and ice to help with pain! It really should only last 3 days at most. If longer, it shouldn't be that deep! It will take a few appts to get results. Hang in there!
Also what might work is Accupuncture (dry needling) in the knot.
Only trying different options to see which works best for you! Everyone is different.
