If so, what type? Myofascial? Deep tissue? Swedish? How do you afford it? Does any insurance cover it? How often do you go?

It's good for temporary relief if you have a good masseus. otherwise I try to use my hard earned money on more long lasting treatments
I have been getting massage every two weeks for almost twenty years. I started shortly after my diagnosis. I pay out of pocket (I'm on Medicare), and feel fortunate to be able to pay for it. I do have a prescription, so I don't pay taxes on the sessions. I truly hope that one day, massage will be recognized as a medical treatment for fibromyalgia. I get myofascial and deep tissue on certain parts of my body. There are places where I can't stand the deep tissue- specifically, on my ilio-tibial band (from the top of my femur to the knee, down the outside of my leg.) I have to tell my therapist if there are places that deep tissue hurts too much. It has made a huge difference in my pain level. But so has Lyrica! But Lyrica has not become a valued friend like my massage therapist! Try it, if you can!
A few years ago, before COVID, my daughter worked for a deep tissue massage therapist. I have WellCare insurance and it paid for me to see him once a week. I saw him for almost 18 months. He would work on my shoulders or my lower back mostly. At first I didn’t think I noticed much of a difference besides the immediate, temporary one. However, after about 6 months I realized I just didn’t ache as much as I did before I was going to him. Now that’s not to say I was pain free because I wasn’t, but the pain WAS less. I stopped going when my daughter quit. Big mistake! After about 8-9 months I tried to go back but COVID was raging so they were closed, then I got diagnosed with emphysema and I haven’t gone out much since. I like deep tissue massage but it can be painful and you need to make sure you go to someone who is PROPERLY trained so you don’t get hurt. And it’s a commitment, not a short term cure. Good luck with whatever you decide 💙!
Yes, but go gently. My sensitive areas changes literally by the minutes, what may feel great to massage now the next day or months don't touch it. My safest massage which seems to spread a very relaxing state overall my body is a massage which comes with the facial I get sometimes. Gentle massages of the face , temple, back of head, neck, bit of shoulder , arm, I love it. Anything else just be super gentle and see what you think.
My husband is trained in deep muscle massage so that is what he does for me and it helps loads but its only short term. Once im back up off the table after a few minute of standing it starts back up on me. But hes helped keep me mobile for the past decade of our marriage.
