When my pain is really bad and over my whole body, i have a hard time talking. Almost like my face muscles are stiff. I also stutter, which I don’t do normally.

Members shared their relief at discovering they weren't alone in experiencing slurred speech, stuttering, and word-finding difficulties during flare-ups, with many describing how pain and fatigue make their face muscles feel stiff and their tongues stumble over words. Several members who work in professional settings like teaching and nursing expressed feeling self-conscious about sounding drunk or unintelligent, especially in the afternoon after busy days or when stress levels are high. A recurring theme was the emotional toll of losing articulation abilities they once relied on, balanced with practical tips like taking deep breaths, restarting sentences, and considering medications like Naltrexone for brain fog while being mindful of potential side effects from other drugs like trazodone.

Yes, I feel really stupid sometimes, can't get the right words or stutter or just talk weird words when I can't find the right ones

I don’t stutter, but my speech becomes slowed and I slur my words. Its like my tongue stumbles over the words. This happens to me when Im in more pain than usual or when Ive pushed too hard. I am a nurse and it usually happens to me in the afternoon when Ive had a busy day and missed a break. I am extremely self conscious of it and worry people think Im impaired.
