I have been dealing with this this last flare. I have bouts of the pain at my sternum and a weird sensation not unlike an underwire bra that has rubbed on the rib right under my left breast. This time around it's worse and has hurt for about 3 weeks. I had to change doctors and have an appointment with a new doc, and will mention this. There is is a "lump" on my ribs in that same spot - so, I am thinking it's inflammation of the cartilage holding the rib to the sternum. Feels like a knife when I push on either side of the sternum.

Everytime I have a flare it starts in my chest with most of the pain around the sternum and along the ribs under my breasts. It can be a bit hard to breathe if the flare is severe. So I deeply massage myself in the affected areas until my breathing eases again. And, yes, I can get pain in my upper back as well. I have degenerative disk disease there.
If you've never had these symptoms before, best to consult a doctor to rule out other things. Not every thing we get is fibromyalgia related.

Chondritis or something like that I forget how it is spelt. I get this sometimes not often thank God but feels like a bad asthma attack without the breathing problems is the best way I can describe it. Gentle hugs to all my fibro friends

Definitely worth mentioning any pains new or old that aren't your "normal " day to day pains
