I have severe anxiety but enjoy drinking my coffee only in the morning. Coffee actually soothes me but in the afternoon it causes anxiety. Well after finding out caffeine causes fibromyalgia flares I have limited my intake for fear of a flare. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. I understand everyone is different and I’m trying to make sense of this fibromyalgia if there is one.

Members shared widely varying experiences when asked whether coffee triggers fibromyalgia flares, with the majority reporting that moderate morning coffee consumption does not worsen their symptoms and some even finding it helps with migraines and energy. Several members mentioned switching to decaf or limiting caffeine intake, with one noting improved sleep and less pain after cutting caffeine, while another found that creamers and sweeteners caused more trouble than the coffee itself. A recurring theme was the highly individual nature of fibromyalgia, with members emphasizing the importance of experimenting to find what works for your own body, setting boundaries, and being kind to yourself through the unpredictable ups and downs of the condition.

I drink coffee in moderation. Too much creamers and artificial sweeteners or even sugar is what causes me added pain. It gets me going! And sometimes really helps when I feel I can't get up.

I gave up coffee and later on decaf because it caused horrible IBS syptoms....constant diarrhea!! Now a few months later I am fine with it......all part of the cyclical nature of fibro, I think.

I drink 2-3 cups in the morning and I do not seem to have problems because of it. I do not drink it in the afternoon or evening.

I have gone to decaf coffee. I like the taste and I still feel like I'm having my brew in the morning. As for sense of fibro....no, I don't think there is any sense to it. You have to live day to day. Set boundaries with family and friends. Try to be as positive as possible. Surround yourself with positive people. Embrace each day for the gift that it is. Also, do not be afraid to take days to yourself. I enjoy watching the day come in and the twilight as the day fades away. Mind you there are days I just couldn't care a less about any of that and I just take it easy. Be kind to yourself because you are important. Cheers xx
