Members responded to the question of throat lumps and fibromyalgia by sharing a range of troubling experiences, including throat spasms, difficulty swallowing, weakened vocal cords, gagging, voice changes, and the frightening sensation of airways closing. Several members described practical strategies and insights, such as keeping water nearby at all times, checking for medication side effects (particularly anti-spasm muscle relaxers), and pursuing comprehensive thyroid testing since thyroid conditions and fibromyalgia often occur together. A recurring theme was the relief of knowing others share these scary and isolating symptoms, with members validating each other's experiences and emphasizing the importance of advocating for thorough medical evaluation rather than dismissing these symptoms as imaginary.

Get your thyroid/goiter checked. This is a symptom of thyroid disease, thyroid nodules or cancer. Thyroid autoimmune disease and fibro can often go hand in hand. DON't let them do just the standard thyroid blood test most doctors run. You want/INSIST on TSH to discern hypopituitary (i.e. low TSH with a low free T3), Free T3 and Free T4, Reverse T3, BOTH thyroid antibodies to detect Hashimoto’s, four iron labs (Ferritin, % Saturation, serum iron and TIBC), 24 hour Saliva cortisol (not blood), B12 and folate, magnesium, potassium (CMP), Vitamin D3 (and D2), MTHFR gene, Thyroglobulin if thyroid cancer is suspected. Others include whatever your doctor recommends. Insurance will probably not cover the cortisol test that checks your adrenal insufficiency better than a blood test.

For me it was my swallowing not working because of the anti spasm muscle relaxer meds. Keep a water bottle by your side and in purse.
