Oh my. I have been getting dry needling done the last two weeks for my planter fasciitis. Two weeks ago in my calves it felt like I had 8 Charlie horses in each calf where they worked. Then 2 days later I get a migraine. This last time I had it done in my hips at top part of the butt muscles. 36 hours later my entire system shut down. I had no muscle strength left. I had to have my husband pick me up from work. I slept 17 hours after that and the next day I still was only at 80%

Dear Cindy, just based on your description of dry needling and what it's doing to your body, I think stopping would be prudent. It sounds as if your practitioner is an amateur. I have no idea what he or she claims to be or to know. But it sounds like they are hitting the wrong meridians for you. Is there an accredited acupuncturist in your area you could go to instead? Someone who really knows what they are doing will not leave you feeling/being so debilitated. God bless you.
Not seeing anyone would be an improvement imho.
Dry needling is where a needle is passed into a tendon or muscle without medication being passed through a syringe. The hole made by the needle creates inflammation and then the tendon or muscle heals itself. It is painful during the healing process and that process can go on for several weeks. It is a treatment for inflammation used here in England.
Traditional methods for treating plantar fascitis (my sister developed it), requires physical.therapy and special arch supports or shoes, none of which cause flares or muscle weakness. If your body "shuts down" its telling you something. Listen to your body. Trust yourself.
I have had dry needling for tendonitis in my foot. Yes it hurts a lot and can hurt for some weeks afterwards but it does help eventually. Then you should get some relief for a time. I have had this done a few times now and it is hard getting through the pain barrier. Just try to pace yourself. I use some Voltarol, it gives me some relief. Don't give up!
I have found that anything that requires a lot of strength or motion from my arms will cause weakness and pain in my arms and may put me into a fibro episode.
