Members shared their varied experiences with changes in taste and smell, with some describing complete loss for extended periods, often tied to sinus issues or polyps, while others reported heightened sensitivity or altered perceptions where familiar foods taste wrong or overly salty. Several members mentioned practical adaptations like eating spicier foods to compensate for dulled senses, while others connected their symptoms to related conditions like Sjögren's syndrome or medication side effects from drugs like Lyrica. A recurring theme was the frustration and sadness of losing the enjoyment of favorite foods, though members found humor and solidarity in the shared struggle, with many noting that unfortunately, these changes did not help with weight management as one might hope.

Yes, my taste is the worst. Everything I used to love tastes as if I had a head cold. So sad. You'd think it would help my weight, hahaha, but no such luck!

I was diagnosed last Nov. I went off the Lyrica 6 weeks ago because it was making me too sleepy. Since then, I have notice a huge change in my taste...and have developed an aversion to a lot of foods, and my tummy is upset. reminds me of being pregnant. Smells knock me down too. I am new with this and just figuring things out as I go...

I lost my sense of taste and smell for over a year. It’s usually sinus disease. I had the surgery. It helped great for about 4 years. Now it comes and goes. Polyps ugh. Usually you can still taste salt and some spicy sensations. Since that sense is from your tongue.

I have lost my taste too but I have sjorgrens syndrome and that accounts for alot. Some things taste very salty to me. like a whole salt shaker salty. chips, tomatoes, salad dressing burn my tongue. mayo, processed lunch cheese, lunch meats are salty. anything spicy burns the tongue. its terrible. I lost my sense of taste a long time ago. and yeah it does nothing for the waistline!!
