In Virginia you can file for disability without a lawyer. typically you are denied 2 times then the 3rd time you get a lawyer and file an appeal. they will give you a court date for your hearing then you're notified after that whether you have gotten it. I am currently awaiting my decision. I do know that 1 thing my lawyer emphasized was you are supposed to be out of work for 12 months prior to applying or be able to show a tremendous decrease and work hours.

Can't hurt to get one if you get rejected and you have to take it to an appeals judge and tribunal

The government never does care what we want or need. It's all about them and in their time.
