Members connected over the frustrating experience of one-sided pain, with many describing burning, shooting, cramping, twitching, and numbness predominantly affecting either their left or right side, particularly in arms, legs, shoulders, and neck. Several members shared their testing journeys, including brain and cervical MRIs that often came back normal or showed only mild degeneration, leaving them feeling dismissed by doctors who couldn't pinpoint a clear cause beyond fibromyalgia or radiculopathy. A recurring theme was the emotional toll of being told everything is normal when symptoms feel anything but, alongside practical suggestions like magnesium and Benfotiamine supplements for twitching and nerve pain, cervical nerve blocks for diagnosis, and pursuing second opinions at specialized centers like Mayo Clinic.

@A MyFibroTeam Member same here “mild degeneration/stenosis” on just c4,5,6 (mainly c5/6). My neuro seems to think all this is caused from my cervical spine issues as well. But when I first went in, my neck wasnt even bothering me! Now i feel a burning/tightness (almost like my head weighs too much for my neck/shoulders or like i’ve been lifting weights - how your muscles burn afterwards). My PT is been doing cervical traction to try and open up the vertebrae and also did dry needling. It helped for about two hours then came right back when I started looking down. Best way to describe it for me is my muscles feel super tight like a rope is in there pulling them two different ways. I have a lot of arm pains ans shooting pains as well is just overall random sharp stabbing pains in my arms. But my main issue right now is the constant burning in my left shoulderblade from my neck down to that area. It just feels so tired and like the muscles are burning. 😩

I take two types of magnesium for the twitching and a bioavailable form of thiamine called Benfotiamine for the burning nerve pain and itching.

@A MyFibroTeam Member I’ve had brain and cervical mris both with, and without contrast. They have noted no stenosis and no impingements - so everything is normal. Blood work is all normal. Emgs - normal. Thyroid - normal on synthroid. I’m so sick and tired of hearing the word “normal” when I feel anything but! And since we’re on the topic of but - my butt twitches too! I showed the neurologist the huge dent in my left buttock cheek - not atrophy according to them. It’s due to one hip being higher and more rotated than the other. Could this be causing the pain and twitching? THEY DONT KNOW! After two years of “we don’t know” and constant testing and appointments, I guess they really don’t know. My doctor said “ if you’ve been to all these different specialists and none of them noticed anything significantly alarming, then you must be ok”. F&*# you! That’s the last time she saw me. There IS something wrong and just because it doesn’t have a “significant diagnosis” it doesn’t mean that what I’m feeling isn’t legit.

Ladies - how many of you have had MRIs on the brain/cervical and even lower spine? Ive only had on brain and cervical and I have minir stenosis/degeneration/with a small posterior protrusion on the right side of my c6 vertebrae. My neuro swears up and down this pain is all from that and thinks i also have fibro. I think he doesnt give a shit and wants me out of my office bc he just wants “easy” patients like people who have chronic migraines. Im headed to Mayo in rochester next week (all prayers welcome). I have my doctors reports including his notes. At one point he writes, “patient is deathly afraid of lymes disease and ALS which I have assured her she has neither.” First off - kinda rude to write it like that. Second, if your body was twitching and were having weakness, cramping and unexplained weird nerve pains, I think it’s perfectly natural to be concerned about your health and want to rule out major things. And for the record, my neurologist never tested me for lymes so how unethical in my opinion to say he assured me that I dont have it when he never even tested me for it. In fact, it is still one of the things im exploring bc i tested positive for one of the main lymes bands on the western blot and also have a low NK CD57 count which has been seen in people with chronic lymes or other major bacterial infections. I believe fibro is real but i also think it’s caused by other things (stress/trauma, yes) but that that can come in many forms. From surgery, mental trauma or something like a weak immune system or an underlying illness. I think most of us on here just want to understand how this happened rather than just be told “this is what you have, learn to deal with it.” It pisses me off that doctors just lump us into this diagnosis but never try to figure out the root cause. If it’s something like a weak immune system or an unresolved bacterial infection, we should at least have an opportunity to try and fix it. It’s like “oh’ you have widespread issues and we cant figure it out so we’ll just lump you into this category and stuff you full of pills to keep you quiet.” Im not buying that. I want answers.

For me it’s my right arm and my left leg. The leg twitches and jerks, the arm has cramping and shooting pain and twitching. I’m sick of this!
