I've had Fibro for just over a year now and cannot loose weight I'm also soooo tired all the time all I get from my family is well if you lost weight you'd get healthy and not be so tired all the time. when I get up to do anything I can usually get through it but am exhausted the rest of the day, no-one understands they just think i'm lazy.

Members rallied around someone feeling misunderstood by family who attributed their weight gain and exhaustion to laziness, with overwhelming agreement that fibromyalgia is not laziness but a debilitating cycle of pain, chronic fatigue, and medication side effects like weight gain from Lyrica. Several members shared practical strategies, including educating family with articles about fibromyalgia, using helpful analogies like a phone stuck at 20% battery or having permanent flu symptoms, trying gentle yoga and myofascial release therapy, and reframing rest as self-care rather than inactivity. A recurring theme was the invisible nature of fibromyalgia that makes it hard for others to understand, the emotional toll of being judged while suffering, and the importance of finding community support from people who truly get it.

Laziness is not in the Fibromyalgia “Dictionary”.

With fatigue, this is a good explanation, if you put your phone on the charger, you get up in the morning and it didn't charge, you only have 20% too last all day, that's what its like with fatigue. Say to your family imagine having the flu permanently that's fibromyalgia. Give them info to read about it.

They just don't understand what kind of pain you are in. It is a vicious cycle, pain, exercise, pain again, sometimes the least little thing we try to do elevates the pain. Not a good idea to push yourself and if people call you lazy, just avoid them! Try some yoga, slowly stretching seems to help.

I hear ya on this one!! I’ve gained weight and I feel like shit but how the hell are you supposed to workout when you are this sore?? I’ve finally learned to just block out all the negativity at home but it does really hurt inside!
