I’ve suffered from pain my whole life. Before I could talk my mom said I would hit my knees and cry. It’s been a crapshow trying to figure out what’s wrong. I finally got a fibro diagnosis of Sept. 2013. Anyone else have childhood pain?

Members connected deeply over the question of whether childhood pain was part of their fibromyalgia journey, with many sharing that their aches and sensitivity to touch were dismissed as growing pains despite lasting well into adulthood and worsening over time. Several members described how trauma, including childhood abuse, neglect, loss of a parent, and accidents, may have triggered or contributed to their fibromyalgia, with some noting research showing a strong overlap between PTSD and chronic pain conditions. A recurring theme was the relief of finally being validated after years of being told they were dramatic or that their pain was just stress, with the community offering solidarity, understanding, and the comfort of knowing they are not alone in their lifelong struggle.

Recent studies have shown that a traumatic experience in your life will bring on fibromyalgia. I am 45 and dealing with a lot of issues, and after reading that a traumatic experience can trigger fibromyalgia looking back on my life I was hit by a car in between 2nd and 3rd grade the car hit me so hard I flew about 25 feet. The only injury I sustained was a concussion. For about 4 years after that I had severe headaches, but in the 80's they didn't do much for headaches except for aspirin for a young child so I suffered. Looking back on the years I had the same issues people touched me it hurts if I played softball I suffered for days of pain afterwards just chalked it up as growing up I dealt with it. And all those years having to deal with it I have a very high threshold for pain. Over the years I have tried pretty much any medication that has come out that is approved for fibromyalgia, the only drug that seems to work for me is 50 mg of Nortriptyline. Unfortunately I have a high sensitivity to drugs, and I have a lot of drug allergies. This condition sucks. And most people don't understand it. It makes dealing with your pain. I am glad I joined this site, now I know I'm not the only one that deals with the same issues and I don't feel so isolated. Thank you. Hugs to all of you.

Yes, I've had pain my whole life. I always thought I had arthritis. The doctors always said it was growing pain. I thought they were full of it. The "growing pains" never stopped. They persisted and got worse as I got older. I kept complaining of pains in my joints and the doctor sent me to get checked for carpal tunnel. She sent me to numorous physical therapist. I started having other persistent issues such as severe allergies, headaches, rashes, sensitivity to light, smells, sounds. I was nausious all the time. I told her I thought one thing might be causing everything else. She told me it was stress. She referred me to a therapist. I switched drs. In my first consult with the new dr she said she knew what it was. In 2015 I was diagnosed with Fibro. I think I've had it my whole life.

Yes, my mother told me she would take me to dr when i was a toddler because i slept so much, and i seemed to hurt. I remember my hips hurting, having digestive problems, then around 12 my back started hurting. Soon after puberty hit, i had endometriosis. As a kid i was so tired, and i ached all over.

oh honey, i'm so sorry to hear about your traumatic experience as a child. I was not physically abused, but I was sexually abused and neglected. My PTSD has developed into physical pain. My rheumatologist has done tons of research on the overlap in PTSD and fibro. There's a huge percentage in lapover of the two. I believe it. When I get triggers (from my PTSD) My body seizes up and I feel intense pain after. I describe it like a car crash. When you see the potential of an accident you tense your whole body, unintentionally. After the accident, or near accident you release all that tension and your whole body hurts. A person that has PTSD has lived their whole life in a heightened fight or flight state. It's an exhausting way to live life.
