Birth Control To Control Flares?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’m considering starting a birth control to help control flares that get really bad before and during my period. I was wondering if anyone has been through the same thing? I’ve never been on BC before so I’m worried that the BC might cause more flares, I was wondering if any ladies out there also started a birth control due to the same issues I’m having? If so any advice would mean the world to me right now...

Have you been checked for endometriosis. It causes severe pain during periods. I had it from 16 years old and took bc pills or depo to stop my periods until I had a hysterectomy at 35. I don't know if the bc pills would help the fibro pain but it will help period pain or endow if you have it. Good luck. Hugs

I am not sure how they check for it now. I had a laparoscopy back in the late 1980s and that is how they found mine but hopefully now they have other ways of diagnosing it other than surgery. Definitely see a Gyno and discuss it with them. Do you have severe pain and heavy bleeding? Sorry if it is tmi. I used to go 7 or 8 days and very heavy. I missed school a lot because of it. A lot of people with fibro that I have spoke with also have endo.

Did you try it? Did it work? Mine also gets back during PMS and am wondering if it might help.

@A MyFibroTeam Member. I was diagnosed with the irregular hb when I was about your age. It does sound like you have an irregular hb. I asked my cardiologist if fibro could be the cause of it but he said no. I figured since our heart is a muscle and fibro affects the muscles that maybe it was the cause of it. It made sense to me but not to him. Lol. I really don't trust doctors anymore. 30 years of dealing with them and fibro has made me not like them at all. Sad I know. At least you have a good one and that is the most important thing with this dreadful disease that we have. Just take one day at a time and live your life the best you can. Don't let fibro rule your life. Hugs
