I went vegan or Whole-Foods, Plant-Based, to be specific, in August.
Initially I lost 20 lbs due to this change, but in October when my doctor put me on Lyrica I gained it all back. So, I maybe eat vegan for nothing?? I am still mostly vegan now. I eat fish about one meal a week and have added a little mozzarella into my diet since Christmas.
Going vegan was the only way I found, after trying the Ketogenic diet and Trim Healthy Mama diets for a full month each, to drop a single pound with my low thyroid.
Dropping weight helped me move and I did get into exercising due to the weight loss. The exercising and the Lyrica help me tremendously.
I still exercise on my mini-trampoline often, even up to an hour or more at a time. I was completely unable to imagine this as possible in August when I started my diet.
As for a direct connection between going vegan and fibro pain, though, I cannot say I found one.
But indirectly, I am in a much better pain and suffering space than I was before going vegan, as I remember spending many days in bed with no exercising to be had for weeks prior to losing the 20 lbs.
Hope this helps some.
**I am curious, @A MyFibroTeam Member, what diets have you tried? and what were your results?
Best wishes to you,
Andrea
Yes, I have done both and it has helped me tremendously... At first when I went more raw food my symptoms improved 80% and that was great enough for me to do daily activities.
I just took a food allergy test because I wanted to be 100% improved and found out I am allergic to certain vegetables, preservatives, and herbs. I cut that out and now I am running at 90% improvement. The test revealed I am not allergic to meat, gluten, or dairy but the preservatives they put in the food to keep it fresher longer.
I feel the way we make our food today is a huge cause for all these autoimmune conditions. So maybe if I ate what I wanted 50+ years ago, I wouldn't have any problems. If you try to cut out certain inflammatory foods I would suggest starting out small. Cut out gluten, then meat, then processed foods, and then dairy. Maybe you don't need to cut out everything? The 30 day elimination diet is a good process to follow. Some people do paleo, but there is an autoimmune one that is better to try.
I try to eat raw food as much as possible to get good nutrition from the foods I eat. I also buy organic as much as I can afford. If I cook, I only cook with olive oil and grape seed oil.
I think the food allergy test would be great to get as well. I found out I was allergic to garlic and had no idea. As soon as I quit my pain and anxiety levels ceased. I used the ALCAT test, it's expensive but worth it. I mean who is allergic to garlic? Me and so that is why it's important to eliminate foods to see if you get a reaction to it or to take a food allergy test, or both.
Another thing I did that really helped is I juice every morning with apple, cucumber, spinach, and carrot.
I do that before i drink any tea or coffee.
I hope you try a few things and it works for you.
Been plant based almost 2 decades and gluten free since 2012. Was dianosed with fibro start of 2016 n cant say my eating plans been helpful or not.
I find that avoiding gluten vis helping
I'm going vegan and then I will see if in fact if its my diet.
