Fibro Triggered After Trauma?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question ๐Ÿ’ญ

I understand that sudden trauma of any kind can be a trigger for fibro. My question is, do those symptoms worsen, "plateau" then you have flares for the rest of your life? That "plateau" becoming your new normal. I'm still new to this and trying to learn. I believe mine was triggered either by having a stroke or losing my father or the combination of both.

It is believed that fibro is caused from a trauma. Research by a doctor on a fb site (look up medical medium) has shown that the ebstein barr virus is what causes fibro. The virus is what causes mono(the kissing disease) after mono, the virus lies dormant in our system until a traumatic event occurs. Fibro is the next phase of ebstein barr. Look this up it is very interesting. Even if you were not diagnosed with mono, that does not mean that you did not have it. You could have thought it was just a bad virus. It causes swollen glands and severe exhaustion. I slept 22 hours a day for 2 and a half weeks. Doctors can do a bloodtest to see if eb is in your system. It will show active or not. They are working on a antiviral for us to take. Hopefully it will be out soon. As for fibro, you need to take one day at a time and sleep as much as possible. Take supplements that helps with inflamation. I also take magnesium and potasium because fibro depletes us of them. I also take a probiotic to keep yeast level down and leaky gut under control. I have had fibro for 30 years and you will have to find the right combo of meds that work for you. It takes trial and error to get something to help the fibro. Keep trying until you can at least function most days. I have had years where i was homebound (except for doctors appt). Alot of that time was because of depression and the pain. I have taken supplements for 5 years now and been able to function most days. I still end up in bed if i overdue it but at least i can get out most days. Look thru the q and a section in here and you will learn alot. I hope you can find a good doctor that will work with you to find what helps. If you have anymore questions, I will try to answer. Everyone on here is very helpful and we all understand what each of us is dealing with. Good luck. Hugs

FYI .. mine has been going on for at least 15 years and doctors still donโ€™t have much of a clue .. only want to send me to pain clinic and they shoot me up w cortisone type shots that done last long and pain clinic isnโ€™t cheap... doctors are scared of using opioids w me .. I truly need them w crushed foot pain and the many other issues I have .. neuropathy for one ... I have good days and bad .. sometimes it seems cyclical .. but I donโ€™t ever seem to plateau .. itโ€™s sharp up and delayed reaction w meds .. I suffer a lot.. I try to set alarms to take meds ahead of the next time to take it ... to stay ahead . Itโ€™s a difficult roller coaster... I have worst time at night!! I have nights I donโ€™t sleep a wink due to being uncomfortable w pain and I can go several days in a row w very little sleep .. other nights I go until almost morning and my body gives up and itโ€™s almost like passing out .. then I sleep a few hours and sometimes woken up by pain .. and start over waiting for it to kick in or my body to give up .. I toss and turn and go to other end of the bed from my husband trying not to wake him.. if Iโ€™ve done more than I should during the day; I pay for it that night w more severe pain.. shooting up and down arms legs feet neck back etc !! I take an osteo bi flex generic .. and magnesium seems to help as well as vitamin E and D3... biotin is another I take .. and zinc .. b12 is another one supposed to help meds work Better I hear.. it allows he body to better absorb the meds you take.. generic Flexeril helps w joints and muscles etc ... generic is cyclobenzaprine.. I also have diabetes and neuropathy .. back issues and carpal tunnel in both hands .. these donโ€™t help w fibro issues.. I started enthuse supplements when I saw a pill sold online for fibro and i took note of the supliments in it on the label and added those items to my regimine.. I have noticed a good difference in fibro issues .. talk to your doctor about any of these things that donโ€™t do well w things you may be taking by prescription... doctors unfortunately donโ€™t yet seem to have any clues on fibro and can be very callous.. I take Norco .. mix of hydrocodone and Tylenol.. mainly due to a crushed foot.. but it helps w other issues as well ... doctors are getting very adamant about these type drugs for fibro and refuse to prescribe them . Unless you have something as major as a crushed foot like me .. even then my docs are trying to get me off of them and send me to a pain clinic ... another cost to me and these injections are a pain in butt and donโ€™t last long and donโ€™t always work.. cost is astronomica!!!
