Herbal Supplements
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello all just curious on what herbal supplements you are taking. I am currently on 4000 mg for my vitamin D deficiency, B12 and Slow Mag at night. I tried one turmeric curcumin and it was great then took 2 and had to put that on pause because of my ulcer. I wish I can take more slow mag for the anxiety but it makes me super tired so at night when I take it I get mental relief. Just curious why everyone takes. Thank you!

Oh wow! That is a lot of spices and foods. I went vegan last year for around 3 months and while I didn’t know I had this at the time I did feel tons better when putting on more plants and good stuff in my system. I think I am just going to go back to that and take it from there and figuring out what helps it.

Truth be told, I don't really believe in supplements. They've never done much for me, that I've noticed anyway. I have access to fresh local organic ginger and turmeric here, so I consume as much of that as my body can handle. I have a superfood herbal mix of maca, astragalus, goji berry, ginseng, reishi and wild bee pollen which I'm currently mixing into my chia seed pudding. I also add ashwagandha and various Ayurvedic warming spices to that, like cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, etc.

I'm not actually doing much in the way of supplements at the moment, aside from probiotics, because I'm ingesting all the vitamins and minerals in the food I purchase at the farmers market and prepare at home, inlcluding coconut Kiefer, home-made coconut milk, kimchi, sauerkraut, fresh raw local fish which I make Poke' with, various local meats like venison. I've even started making my own gluten-free crackers out of fresh shredded coconut and hemp seeds, and surprisingly they taste like Cheez-it's. It's a lot easier to do this diet and lifestyle in Hawaii, especially during the winter. That's why I'm taking a break from my home up in the PNW.

I have been taking alot of supplements for several years. I started taking them in 2011. I was pretty much home bound. My cousin is a nutitionist and told me what to take. Within about 6 months i was getting out alot more. I still have pain and all the other symptoms but at least i don't miss out on as many family events as i used to. I take co q 10, garlic oil, oil of oregano, L glutamine, alpha hydroxy acid, vit b and d and a probiotic to help with high yeast and leaky gut. They definitely help me.

I would watch for low blood pressure symptoms but I have never had a problem. My BP Is perfect. Maybe try it slowly and build up. I take fish oil and mag at night together.
