I never liked taking medication and would always try to find an herbal alternative. I was never on a constant medication until I was diagnosis with fibromyalgia . Now I'm on blood pressure med's cholesterol med's my fibro med's and maybe soon to be diabetes med's. My doctor took me off of all my herbal supplements when he diagnosed me.He really doesn't believe in them. I just want to know if anyone else is taking herbal supplements and have any suggestions.

Members shared a wide variety of supplements they use alongside fibromyalgia medications, with vitamin D3, magnesium, fish oil, glucosamine, and SAM-e being the most commonly mentioned, though many emphasized that results vary by individual and that supplements should complement rather than replace necessary prescription medications. Several members offered practical advice about managing side effects from medications like Metformin, noting that long-acting formulations and patience through the adjustment period can help, while cautioning against using diabetes medication solely for weight loss. A recurring theme was the importance of being careful about where supplements are purchased, discussing all additions with a doctor or pharmacist to avoid dangerous interactions, and recognizing that while some supplements may help with pain or joint health, serious conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes often require proven medical treatment.

Careful what you read about miracle results for Fibro from supplement companies. There are a lot of snake oil salesmen out there preying on people like us who would try anything to feel better. Supplements can have side effects too, and can interact with prescription meds you are taking. Please discuss taking anything new with your pharmacist or Dr..

Agree @A MyFibroTeam Member for sure about snake oil salesmen type of products out there that claim they can help with Fibromyalgia or what have you condition or disease. It's one thing to take supplements you'd buy at a drugstore over something you'd buy off a suspect site online. Be careful!

The ONLY site I'd buy from that sells products made for fibromyalgia is http://www.prohealth.com/. That site produces some of the best factual fibro/cfs articles online. The only other site I read that is as great or better of a fibro/cfs resourse is http://www.cortjohnson.org. The author of that site is an average joe who has dedicated his life to following new research and providing informative, real and true articles about fibro and cfs. He frequently writes for Pro Health. So if you read about something on either site, you can take it as fact. Both are very bookmark worthy resource sites, especially if you want to follow new studies and get the most recent chronic pain and related news.

I don't take herbal supplements, but I do take supplements for very specific purposes. You have to tailor it for your body. However, I think that medication for very serious medical problems is absolutely necessary. Some can be resolved with diet/exercise, like hypertension and type 2 diabetes.

The specialist I went to insisted I start taking vitamin D daily. I read afterwards that it helps with joint health. I also bought Glucosamine Sulfate. I just have to remember to take them regularly lol. Its for joint pain and health. Its worth a shot.
