My PCP can only prescribe tramadol and @flexeril. Well neither of them does anything for my pain. I also have arthritis in my knees and shoulders, PCOS, and bad stomach problems. My PCP referred me to pain management.dr. I saw the 1st pain management dr and he told me he does not want to treat me because I have fibromyalgia. He told me to do aquatic therapy and there is nothing else for me. I went to a 2nd pain management dr today. He told me that the federal government is cracking down on pain… read more
You need a Rheumatologist to treat your fibro. Mine gives me no issues with pain meds whatsoever. Do your research on the internet and check their patient ratings. It is like interviewing them. Exercise is good, water exercise excellent but you need other help to make your life a quality one. Sending you prayers. (((hugs)))
My rheumatologist retired, and my new one doesn't seem as interested in Fibro! My primary doctor prescribes Percocet for me, since I can't take NSAIDS, it's only thing that takes the edge off my pain! She knows I don't abuse it!
You need to do research and find a rheumatologist that will treat you thoroughly. I have literally walked out on doctors. I had a pain management doctor at one time and on the first visit he said if I did not want morphine what was I doing there? OMG.......PCP is good for small things but you need the proper doctor for your symptoms. Please do that for yourself. Lyrica made me into a zombie, I can't do Cymbalta it made me feel funny.......and you might need a gastroenterologist for your stomach.
@A MyFibroTeam Member I hope everything turns out ok for you.
I agree with Katherine; you need a good Rheumatologist. I have both a Pain Management doc, as well as fantastic Rheumatologist. Between the two of them, they keep my pain lower so I can manage it myself.
I am also going to Pool Therapy. It is wonderful! You learn how to move and stretch slowly, to keep everything moving. You can also try massage; I go once a month.
I found out that I am allergic to Tylenol 3 with Codeine, so much for that pain med. Also, I can only take Oxycontin when I am in moderate to severe pain, and only while I'm awake during the day. Taking it at night only complicates my breathing with my CPAP; I could stop breathing more times than my normal, if I take it at night.
A heating pad, as well as cold packs also work for pain. I wish that my meds would cover more of my pain.
Love and gentle hugs. :o)
