Members shared powerful connections between childhood trauma and fibromyalgia, describing how prolonged abuse created a state of constant high alert that left their bodies chronically tense and hypervigilant. Many community members described finding relief through therapy, with several crediting behavioral therapists, psychologists, and pain center specialists for helping reduce flare-ups and providing essential emotional support alongside medical treatment. A recurring theme was the concept of the body being "tapped out" from years of fight-or-flight response, with members emphasizing that addressing trauma through professional help can be a meaningful part of managing fibromyalgia symptoms.

I think therapy is always a good place to start. We most often do not know what could be contributing to our issues. Good luck.

I am certain some type of abuse can cause a person on" high alert" to have every muscle and skin and joint stay in the fight or flight experience. I'm a survivor, my oldest daughter is also a survivor.

Many more I know that have it due to prolonged exposure to abuse, physically, verbally and spiritually. It's been a very long road getting the verbal and physical abuse to be quiet!
Then my pain racked body is what is left behind. I'm extremely grateful and thankful to God who saved me to help and share with other survivors who are now dealing with fibromyalgia.

Yes, I was abused by my father and then my ex fiancé. I think my fibro stems from physically being sick, unexpected young friend death, in pain from arthritis, and trying to get my homeless twin off drugs. I think my body is tapped out on dealing with traumatic events.
