I'm struggling to function as a normal person a lot more recently, the dark mornings and dark nights are getting to me and I have no motivation to do anything including go to work which is just terrible, it's my livelyhood. Of course the pain doesn't help with going to work either but I just don't know how to keep going and putting on the fake smile and pretending everything is ok.

Members rallied around someone struggling with fibromyalgia-related depression during the dark winter months, emphasizing that depression and chronic pain often go hand in hand and urging a candid conversation with a doctor about adjusting antidepressants or exploring counseling options. Several members shared practical coping strategies that helped them push through difficult workdays, including car naps during lunch, treating oneself to small daily rewards, light therapy for seasonal mood changes, engaging distractions like puzzles or streaming shows, and dressing up in favorite outfits to feel more human. A recurring theme was the importance of self-compassion, accepting limitations without judgment, identifying personal triggers, and finding tiny moments of joy or rest to break up overwhelming days.

I try to be kind to myself. Do nice things that I enjoy like watching a funny film or painting my nails. It's the little things that makes the difference.

Hope you are having a low pain day xxx

Hi @A MyFibroTeam Member I notice as the season changes that the lack of daylight bothers me some. Always has. I've considered getting a light therapy thing like my friends who live in very northern usa use. They have seasonal affective disorder (?) and have to sit with these special lights on so long each day. Maybe that could help too.

Get something to look forward to like a holiday or just try to keep busy. Easier said than done I know, but I find this helps.

@A MyFibroTeam Member I've been on them a while now. Most of the time they help I think I just need better doses or some counselling to get me through. Thank you.

@A MyFibroTeam Member at least we aren't alone in feeling this way eh?

@A MyFibroTeam Member, I was referred for counseling in May but have heard absolutely nothing. My pharmacist gave me some info for a drop in one though so going to try and go there. I did have counselling years ago, it's sore but I think needed.
That sounds like a nice thing to do at lunch, unfortunately where I work it's mostly boarded up shop fronts and I can't walk far anymore. I read your comment before I went to the practice today, I put a new jumper on and my sparkly heeled boots and felt more like me. I got back into my PJs when I got home but might wear the bright red tomorrow, I do love fashion, thank you so much for the comment, dressing nicer even for a little bit felt good. The support is really appreciated ❤

@A MyFibroTeam Member yeah i think we all do, I just seem to be having more bad days now. Netflix is my bestie and online Xmas shopping is a helpful distraction x

I take antidepressants as well. I have good mood days and bad mood days. I have been doing seek and find PC games to keep my mind off my illnesses and it has really helped.
