Seems that my depression hasn't gotten better but it hasn't gotten worse.
Is this normal or common?

Members overwhelmingly confirmed that depression is common with fibromyalgia, with many describing it as both a reaction to chronic pain and loss of abilities, and possibly related to brain chemistry changes from the condition itself. Several members shared personal experiences ranging from frequent crying and emotional struggles to severe depression requiring medication, with practical advice including talking to doctors about adjusting antidepressants, finding small daily joys to focus on, and reaching out for support during dark moments. A recurring theme was the debate over whether depression causes fibromyalgia or results from it, with strong consensus that living with constant pain and physical limitations naturally affects mental health, though some emphasized treating pain first before adding antidepressants.

@A MyFibroTeam Member. I have both and the depression is caused by pain And the inability to cope with physical challenges.

Yes definitely common! I think because our lives change with this illness. We are dealing with all these physical symptoms and so we feel stuck, isolated & sick. We are unable to do what we used to do! I think this causes depression. Some Dr's get it backwards & say depression is the cause for FM!

No. Depression can occur in people with fibro but I think this is more reactionary to the other symptoms of fibro. Constant pain and inability to carry out daily living activities. Just because you have fibro doesn't automatically mean you will get depression or need to take an anti depressant.

My pain was really bad in February and I wasn't sleeping at all. My gp wanted me to start antidepressants, sleeping tablets and pain killers. I said no as the reason I was feeling suicidal was the pain. I got the pain under control and my mood lifted. I think if you do have depression then obviously this needs treating but let's not maskfibro symptoms by treating low mood. It just muddies the water and prevents access to appropriate treatment.

In that picture it looks like to me that you are holding the greatest reason Not to end your life. They make meds for this, go get some, and find the one that is good for you. Don't give up. Lean on the ever lasting arms of Jesus. He will call you home when it's time. His time, not yours, His will be done. You are an amazing person and loved by more than you will ever know.

Might not be taking the right meds. Sometimes it takes a while to find the right one for you and after taking the same one for a while you need to change up for a while. That's my story. It works for me. Good Luck
