I like a drink every now and then but I find the following day when I’ve drank, in recent times, that I feel awful, not just a regular hangover. The pain in my ribs etc is heightened. I’ve had bloods done on my liver and kidneys, and there’s no inflammation markers anywhere.
I’m wondering if it’s more psychological and maybe the depression takes over because it’s a depressant? Or is it just irritating my body now?
What are you guys experiences?
Thank you x

Members overwhelmingly described how alcohol now triggers significantly worse fibromyalgia symptoms the following day, including heightened pain, increased fatigue, and depressive feelings that go far beyond a typical hangover, with many choosing to stop drinking entirely because the aftermath simply isn't worth it. Several members shared different coping strategies, including some who drink moderately within careful limits, others who quit completely after years of drinking, and one member who finds that nightly drinking actually reduces their pain and depression more than abstaining does, though most acknowledged the tricky balance of managing symptoms without creating unhealthy dependencies. A recurring theme was the guilt, loss, and grief of giving up social rituals like wine nights or celebratory drinks, alongside practical discussions about vaping as a smoking alternative, medication interactions with alcohol, and the reality that fibromyalgia bodies simply don't recover the way they used to.

I have never been a bit drinker but would have a few every now and then, in the past year I have found I feel so sick the next day, even if I've only had one alcoholic drink, I feel terrible so I very rarely have a drink anymore!! It's not worth the aftermath, it's like it causes me to flare!

I can't drink at all. Even just one gives me a hangover and alcohol seems to make me feel even more depressed, but according to my GP alcohol shouldn't be drank whilst taking anti depressants as it reverses the effects of the pills x

@A MyFibroTeam Member Yeah, that’s how I feel now after drinking. I’m guessing that’s how i’ll feel tomorrow morning lol. I don’t drink spirits (liquor) but if I do, it’s Gin and that’s horrible the next day. I generally drink Beer, I love a pint of beer if I’m out lol.
I love my vape. Never looked back and haven’t missed cigarettes. Well done on 4 years 👏🏽👍🏽
