Hi all, I've read very different things regarding alcohol and Fibro/RA/CFS. I used to love a scotch every night with my husband; however now one drink and I'm pretty much in bed most of the next day in physical (not hung over) agony.

I clearly personally can no longer drink; I'm just wondering if any one else reacts like me or if there are some lucky ones who can still enjoy (and perhaps the alcohol even dulls the pain as I've read in one article) a drink and not pay for it dearly the next few… read more

Members widely shared that alcohol now triggers significantly worsened fibromyalgia symptoms, with many reporting intense body pain, exhaustion, brain fog, and debilitating headaches lasting days after just one drink, leading most to give up drinking entirely. Several members offered practical strategies for those who still occasionally drink, including taking Berocca or multivitamins beforehand to replace depleted minerals, switching from wine or dark spirits to gin or vodka with mixers, staying well-hydrated, and adding ginger to their diet to reduce inflammation. A recurring theme was the bittersweet loss of social enjoyment and normalcy, balanced against the reality that even a brief moment of pain relief or fun with friends often comes at too steep a physical cost the following days.

I get hot flushes if I drink even a glass, I generally don't drink at all but if in a flare up I'll take meds then have a glass or two and it inhaces the meds making them work better.

Sometimes I do find being able to have a glass of wine and a laugh with friends is all worth it as the next day will often just be like the day before for me. Not great! Good company and a laugh can help alot!

Hi all hope this finds you with a low pain today. Drinking Alcohol: I stopped many years ago because I got bad head aches with just one class. I do like a beer if we are having a braai. It just is not worth the H/A. Take care. Hugs all round.
