I have been tested for carpal tunnel and arthritis, of which I have neither. Yet I get such bad unexplained hand and wrist pain. I was just wondering if it was a common symptom? This is the pain that began my 3yr journey that finally lead me to being diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2010.

Members strongly validated the experience of severe hand and wrist pain despite testing negative for carpal tunnel and arthritis, with many identifying thumb joints as a particularly painful area and describing the pain as shooting, aching, or feeling frozen. Several members explained that fibromyalgia affects muscles and tendons throughout the body beyond the 18 diagnostic tender points, with some distinguishing between trigger point pain and myofascial pain as two types they experience. A recurring theme was the real-world impact on daily activities like washing dishes, carrying bags, using phones, and working on computers, with members expressing frustration that medications often provide little relief and deep concern about maintaining hand function for independence.

Yes, sometimes my hands hurt so bad and the worst is in my thumb joints! How can they hurt so bad when there’s no arthritis, swelling or inflammation???

I have pain in my hands and wrists also. I do believe it is caused from fibro. Several people on here have said they have pain there too. As for the tender points, thwy say there are 18 of them they use for diagnosing fibro, but we all have pain throughout our bodies. I don't think they could pinpoint every spot on our bodies that hurt. It would take forever. We have muscles and tendons in every inch of our bodies and that is what fibro affects. I hope this helps.

Oh my goodness, I was just talking about that yesterday. Our weather here has changed and is cold and rainy. My wrists and hands hurt so bad. I am an office manager and am on the computer and doing pencil and paperwork all day long. It doesn't help it any, that's for sure. I have had both carpal tunnel surgeries and the left hand two times. No improvement. So it must be the fibro. I feel ya sister! hugs
