Members shared their varied experiences with chronic eye pain in fibromyalgia, describing symptoms ranging from dry eyes and light sensitivity to sharp stabbing sensations and feelings of something stuck in the eye. Several members found relief through different approaches, including tear duct plugs, Restasis for Sjögren's syndrome, strict gluten elimination (which resolved eye pain within two weeks for one member), and regular monitoring for conditions like uveitis that can occur with autoimmune diseases. A recurring theme was the frustration of seeking multiple specialists before finding answers, with members encouraging thorough eye exams, exploring autoimmune connections, and managing dry eye aggressively to prevent further complications.

I was told when I get my yearly checkup for my eyes to have them check for uveitis because of redness, pain and light sensitivity I can get. To make sure my eyes are good since it can develop from my Ankylosing Spondylitis. I have gone to two very good and thorough eye doctors that I really like. Dr Cleveland in Springfield on "A" street. And Dr Cuevas at VRC at Lenscrafters.
"The symptoms of anterior uveitis may include eye redness, light sensitivity (photophobia), tearing, eye pain, and blurred vision. Discharge from the eyes is uncommon. ... Anterior uveitis associated with ankylosing spondylitis may occur in one eye or both eyes and tends to be recurrent."

Have sjogerns syndrome and dry eye is a symptom of the disease. My eyes will become so dry they run and feel as something is in them even though I use Restasis. I also have sharp pain which feels like a needle is being thrust thru my eye and it will sometime last for weeks. Good luck and Gos bless!

I had constant eye pain for years in addition to a constant headache. The eye pain was very specific in my eye balls, and actually more unpleasant than the headache pain. About 3 months ago I gave up all gluten, very strict about it, no cheating. Within 2 weeks the eyeball pain was gone, although the headache pain, which is all frontal, forehead and front of the head is still there. The good news is that the eye pain was really exhausting, the headache not so bad, once the eye pain was gone. Giving up gluten solved two problems, the eye pain and the constant low intestinal pain. I would say my functioning improved at least 60% just not having these constant pains to deal with. I still have all the other symptoms of fibro, but what a difference losing a few of them makes! Even though today is a bad day, most of my days now are so-so or good.

Have you been checked for Sjorgren's Disease?

I get stress headaches that tend to start behind my left eye, I wear glasses already and my left eye is my weak eye, so if I get a headache it tends to start there.... If you haven't already, get an eye exam to rule out not seeing or needing your Rx updated... I also have dry eyes which can cause burning and dry eyes can also make you more prone to scratching your cornea ( Your inner eyelids can get stuck to your cornea when you're sleeping; so when you open your eyes it will cause an abrasion on the cornea... which I've done on more than one occasion) So if you have chronic dry eye, make sure you're treating them per instructions of your Dr. My eyes will get achy and burn if I over use them (or if my Rx in my glasses need to be adjusted. Sometimes my lids will twitch if I've stayed up too late or have done up close work for too long like on the computer....
