@Disability I also suffer from fibromyalgia along with other health conditions. I applied for disability in February of 2002,but it wasn’t approved until October 2004 because Social Security denied me and I had to get an obtain the sevicesd of an attorney. At the judicial hearing, the judge read over my file and approved my disability in less than five minutes, also the approval date was retroactive to February 2002.

I live in New York I don't know if it's the same all over but if you try to get disability after you are of retirement age you will not get disability because you are too old just Social Security that's what I was told I am 73 and in severe pain since I was in my 50s and I didn't know that at that time about the disability laws so now I have a little Social Security money and still a lot of pain and no help for either.

I was denied once but I did have a great attorney that said that is usually an automatic thing to happen mine could of been dated back a Lot further but I made the mistake of going on unemployment so that to them shows you can work because you have to be out applying for jobs so I really messed up how much I could of gotten but did not even think of disability at that time my hearing was in February and I just now got my back pay after numerous phone calls and now I get a letter from them saying they are still working on my case and I might have to pay back money what the hell how about they should have to give me more I just don’t get what is going on with my back pay its so confusing then they say after a year I can collect Medicare so now I have to find out a year from what date and you can get a different answer from each different person you talk to at the SSI office so have a lot of patience and a good attorney but they usually won’t do it for just fibro so have all Dr records for everything. The attorney will give a free consult and tell you if you have a chance mine wasn’t gonna get paid if I didn’t win so if they take you on you know you have a pretty good chance.. good luck

I definatley agree with the lady above . my daughter tried getting disability because of fibro and was turned down. She went to a Dr that was recommended to her that help people and she got it because he turned in other problems she had.they just don't recognize fibro. Good luck and hugs

I am 51 and have been on disability since I was 35. It took 2 years to get it because of my age. When i went in front of the judge, he said they should nevet have turned me down. I have sevetal other issues too. Depression on and off for years. Asthma, I also had neck fusion while in the process of appealing my case. It does help to get all of your medical papers to them. When I went to talk to ss after o was approved, I was waiting for the lady to come talk to me and across the room I saw a pile of file folders sitting on a desk. There was about 12 files in one pile. Next to it there was one huge file that was as big as all 12 together. I kind of chuckled to myself that it was so big until she picked it up and brought it over and I realized it was mine.i knew i had gone to alot of doctors but could not believe that this was my file. Anyway that is why I suggest getting all your medical files from evert doctor you have been to. Good luck and be patient. Definitely get an disability attorney to help you appeal it when you get turned down. Yoy will be turned down at least once. I was twice then you go in front of the judge. I hope this helps.
