I have fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis, I find I’m having more and more difficult meeting the physical requirements of my job. I’m a supervisor in a daycare of over 100 children from 6 weeks to 4 years old and part of my day is teaching preschool. I’ve been in the direct care field for about 20 years. Kind of hard to switch careers now and it’s getting tougher to suck it it up. My sister keeps telling me I should look into going on disability. Any suggestions.

Members strongly encouraged someone considering disability for fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis to hire an attorney specializing in disability claims, with many sharing that their own applications were denied once or twice before being approved within 12 to 18 months after legal help. Several members emphasized the importance of documenting everything related to the disability, including days unable to work, performance reviews, medical records, and letters from doctors or family, as thorough documentation strengthens the case and can result in retroactive payment from the initial filing date. A recurring theme was the difficulty of the process and the long wait times, but also the hope and relief that came with eventual approval, with members offering encouragement to stay persistent and not give up.

Second that from Anita Sullivan. Get an attorney!! It took 6 years fighting them & I have A LOT of afflictions that individually each qualify but still years. I hired Binder & Binder and had a hearing & was approved within about 16 months of hiring them. Good luck

hire an attorney specialzing in disability claims, I'm in NC and mine was denied 2 times, then hired an attorney, had a hearing and was all approved in about 18 months, it's definitely NOW recognized as a DISABILITY

All the advice about hiring a lawyer or finding one for free if you are low income is absolutely necessary. What also helps, keep documenting everything related to your disability. What you couldn't do on certain days, performance reviews if they reflected anything about you physically, letters from employers, doctors, anyone else relevant such as family and friends, your own diary (doesn't have to be long entries at all). And of course your lawyer will get medical records. You should get disability and will get a check retroactive to when you first filed. That's what happened to me and that first check came in real handy. Good luck and God bless.

I had to hire attorney to help with disability. Some days I can't even get out of bed. Good luck.
