I was wondering if anyone here had had a hysterectomy after being diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Is so what are some of the questions you wished you had asked your Surgeon/ Doctor. I am absolutely terrified and don't want to forget anything. So please any advice or suggestions are appreciated. Thank you Gentle hugs to all.
I had a hysterectomy in 1990 but did not have fibro then. But having fibro now and being a nurse I would ask your doctor when he gives his/her bedside report after surgery to your recovery nurse, tell him/her that you have fibromyalgia. That way if you wake up in extra pain that the nurse will be there to take care of it right away. I would also ask if the recovery nurse who will take you to your room will pass on in report (verbally, not just written in your chart) to your floor nurse that you have fibromyalgia. I would also discuss anything and everything you can think of that might be special about you and your reaction to pain. I don't mean fibro pain, I mean pain that you have had from any trauma such as a fall, a cut, another surgery, etc. Do you have a high pain threshold or is your pain worse when your body has experienced trauma? If trauma causes your fibro to flare, your health care team needs to know this. I have found as long as all parties are communicating, they should be able to manage your pain correctly. Pain management is one of the most important thing nurses are responsible for.
Try not to be scared. I know, easy to say but hard to do. You got this! We are all here for you. Please let us know how it goes. After mine, my quality of life went through the roof. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

@A MyFibroTeam Member I am so sorry you are having to go through all of this at such a young age. I am 44 have 3 grown children and 2 beautiful Grandchildren. You are just starting your adult life. I hope everything goes smoothly for you I will keep you in my prayers. Try to stay positive and optimistic I know it's hard but it does make it a little better. I have been depressed and most days did not leave my room. Now on Cymbalta I feel so much lighter if that makes any sense My husband even took me on a date last night and my therapist even noticed a big difference I had almost given up I had tried so many different antidepressants . Please keep me posted Gentle Hugs and I will keep you in my prayers.
@ Yummeindetumme I don't mind at all I am quite interested myself i am hoping that I can keep at least one ovary as I really don't want to go through menopause right now if I don't have to I have enough on my plate right now.Gentle hugs feel free to email me anytime @ (Email address can only be seen by the question and answer creators)
I had mine because they could not control my bleeding every month. I didn't have any fibroid tumor's or any other issues other than my hormones were so overactive I spent days in bed on my period. They would usually last from 10 days to two weeks and the pain was unbearable. No treatments helped so they said when you've had enough, come back and we will schedule surgery. It improved my life tenfold. Can't even say how much I benefited. But I kept my ovaries so I didn't have to worry about hormone replacement.
