Somatic Symptom Disorder/ Or Fibro
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am so frustrated 7 years ago I was diagnosed with Graves' disease thyroid overactive and I was experiencing numbness down the left arm and face it was diagnosed as somatic disorder I found this hard to get my head around and didn't really agree with the decision at the time, the numbness in my left arm has never returned to this day . It must be very discouraging, but you've gotten the run- around. Some doctors think that women "especially" have it all in their heads. I really don't know why, as this is a very old-fashioned notion and very misogynistic. Hopefully your rheumatologist will be able to give you the attention and treatment you deserve. People with fibromyalgia do best with a medical team that looks towards managing pain, physical therapy, or even counseling if that's what you feel you need. Good luck.

@AmyKerinke - You could not have said it better if you had been reading it from a book. It is a difficult disease. It falls under the autoimmune diseases and there are so many. The best place to go is to the Pain Management Clinic - --all they do is manage pain. They have the time and the knowledge to help you in your hours of need. I went and am so grateful to God. I am now on a PainPatch that I change every 7th day and my pain is Zero right now for the past two weeks.

There are doctors who specialize in treating fibromyalgia and chronic pain - some rheumatologists, or physiologists, etc. It sounds like you would benefit from seeing one of them. A lot of doctors outside of this small group are not interested in treating anyone with fibromyalgia because it includes so many variables and there really isn't a cure. They therefore are not very communicative or forthcoming in answering your questions or explaining test results. They just hope you will go away. Find a fibro specialist and get the information you need.

Find a good Rheumatologist, one that will sit and talk with you and help you understand, not one to just prescribe you medication and send you on your way. Good Luck dear, and God Bless, I wish you well.

Wow, we are like twins. Are you sure you weren't describing me? I would stick with a Rhuematologist for sure. I agree, this stuff does affect the quality of ones life. I wish you the best and hope you find some relief soon.
