In the past two years, I've lost almost 1/3 of my hair. The shower floor is covered and when I comb the comb and countertop are covered. I just read an article about this being a symptom of fibromyalgia and had never considered that before.

Members connected over the frustrating experience of hair loss with fibromyalgia, sharing that stress, surgery, trauma, and thyroid conditions can all contribute to thinning hair, with many noting increased shedding during times of high anxiety or after medical procedures. Several members found relief through supplements like folic acid, vitamin D3, and B-complex vitamins, though results varied, and some emphasized the importance of checking thyroid levels since untreated thyroid issues can mimic fibromyalgia-related hair loss. A recurring theme was the emotional toll of watching hair fall out in clumps, balanced by reassurance that hair can grow back as overall health improves and that losing up to 100 strands daily is considered normal.

I too am experiencing this , I will be 63 at end of month . I asked my beautician and she didn't think I was and told me I have tons of hair . I know we usually can expect to lose hair at a rate of 100 a day and that's the norm for anybody . But I know I lose some after any surgery I have and I just had hand surgery . Also after any trauma whether physical or emotional can do it to . My Sister had a really bad ordeal and was hospitalized for 6 mo and died twice and was put on the vent to save her . Anyway when she got home I went to spend some time with her and her husband and I were washing her hair for her and I was shocked at how much hair she was losing I looked up at him and he just acknowledged it by mouthing I know . That was 2 yrs ago and her hair grew back as she got better , it was even curly for awhile ! But everything is back to normal now .
I haven't read about it specifically in Fibro but wouldn't surprise me.

Having anxiety which is another gift of Fibro . Also can add to some hair loss at high anxiety times. I have found more than normal hair loss after any surgeries. ( supposedly normal hair loss is 100 strands a day )

Thank you for all your comments. Many of you said folic acid. I've been taking one by prescription for 4 months and haven't noticed any improvement. My thyroid tests are normal too. I do get anxious easily so maybe that's it. I see my doctor again next week so will bring it up to him.
